One dead, three injured after car crash on Westmeath road

One person died and three others have been injured after a car crash in County Westmeath, Ireland.

The crash between a car and an SUV took place on the N4 at Ballinafid at 9:20 am on Friday morning.

The man who died in the crash was a passenger in the car.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another passenger in the car was flown to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where he is in serious condition.

The driver was being treated at the Midland Regional Hospital. His injuries were not serious.

The driver of the SUV, a man in his 60s, was admitted to Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore with serious injuries.

The road was shut for some time as forensic crash investigators examined the scene.
