Following the sale of the very last example of the Porsche 918 Spyder, the luxury German car manufacturer is now considering working on the successor to the model. Speaking of the company’s sale figures, however, it seems that everything is going well for the Stuttgart-based automaker. The company has officially announced that until November 2014, it has already surpassed the number of sales it managed to achieve back in the year 2013. Last year, the company sold no less than 162,145 examples of its vehicle lineups and this was a record by itself.
For this year’s success, the company owes a lot to its 918 Spyder model. No less than 297 examples of this model in particular have been delivered to the customers in the US. Customers in Germany and China also prove to be very fond of this particular German vehicle. The customers in each of these countries have ordered a hundred units of the plug-in hybrid supercar model, in spite of its really high price, $845,000.
Seeing how successful its 918 Spyder is in the global automotive market, Porsche has decided that it is going to build the next generation version of the vehicle. As reported by Autocar, Wolfgang Hatz, the head of R&D at Porsche, has confirmed this plan. Hatz claims that although it may not be too fast before fans of the brand will be able to witness a whole brand new 918 Spyder, it is not going to be very long, either, for that to happen. After all, cars like the Porsche 918 Spyder has been crucial in helping the automaker learn and implement new sorts of technology which it can later apply in other vehicle models as well as other areas.
In the meantime, those fans of the 918 Spyder may have to settle with a rather low profile model, such as the new generation Porsche 959, officially known as the Porsche 988.
