Ever since the release of the R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI from Audi that was powered by a V10 engine talk had been abuzz about the next release. And as per the latest news, the rag-top supercar from Inglostadt would be out soon with a 4.2 liter, V8 engine delivering 430 hp. This powerhouse would be enough to send the R8 Spyder from 0 to 100 kmph (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds and maintain top speeds of 299 kmph or 186 mph. The newer version of the R8 in comparison will race to the 100 kmph mark from standing still in 4.1 seconds flat while top speed figures for the 525HP R8 Spyder 5.2 V10 is a quite impressive 313 kmph or 186 mph.

Choice of transmission with the V8 engine includes either a six speed manual gear box or the Rtronic semi automatic. A quattro permanent all wheel drive is a standard fitment in all the vehicles. Fuel consumption figures for the V8-powered R8 Spyder as released by Audi is 14.9 liter per 100 km or 15.8 US mpg for the version featuring the manual gearbox while it is 13.9 liter per 100 km or 16.9 US mpg in the Rtronic gear box models.

A standard suspension along with 18 inch wheels features on the R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI model though the 19-inch alloys and magnetic ride adaptive damping system which comes standard in the V10 can also be opted for the R8 Spyder.

Audi is yet to make available any photograph of the of the R8 Spyder 4.2 V8 FSI for us to feast our eyes on but it should be similar in looks to the V10 powered model depicted below.

The R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI quattro will be making is debut in showrooms across Germany in the third quarter of 2010 at a price of €121,000 which works out to approximately US$150,500. Also at this price, the R8 Spyder is €35,400 less than the V10-powered model the price for which starts from €156,400.
