Report: Tesla considering an autonomous driving system, might team up with Google

by SpeedLux

The CEO of Tesla Elon Musk has recently confirmed that he has talked to Google about the potential of using their autonomous driving system.

Musk is pretty confident of this technology and he stated that he sees great potential in it as long as it can overcome several key obstacles. He stated that autonomous driving system is a logical step in the evolution of cars.

He explained that currently the problem of the Google approach is that the sensor system is quite expensive and so it becomes better to have an optical system which is nothing but cameras with software that is able to figure out what’s going on just by looking at things.

Since Google appears to be committed to their high-tech approach, Musk said that Tesla will likely develop its own autonomous driving system but he did not rule out the possibility if working with Google as well as of now.

Currently, Google is pushing to get the technology into the hands of customers at the earliest, but the Tesla CEO thinks that it is not a priority as of now as he is more concerned about getting consumers to adopt sustainable vehicles like the Model S.
