Skoda– Skoda Auto, more commonly known as Skoda, is an automobile manufacturer based in the Czech Republic. Skoda became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group in 2000, positioned as the entry brand to the group. Its total global sales reached 875,000 cars in 2011.
Czech manufacturer, Skoda have unveiled their new compact saloon, the 2013 Skoda Rapid at the Paris Motor Show currently going on, up till 14th of October 2012.
One aspect of the Skoda Rapid, is that, it is for sure this new enterant will draw a lot of attention to the fact that it possesses a lot more room in its interiors as compared to its predecessor, which displays a new design which was previewed by the Vision D concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, which ensures better safety features and fuel efficient engines, termed as an family car, Skoda Rapid comes with five engine choices, two diesel and three petrol variants.
As mentioned above the Skoda Rapid will get a variety of engines under its hood, including the 1.6 liter TDI (Turbocharged Direct Injection) with 88 HP and 230 Nm of torque or with 103 HP and 250 Nm of torque, the new 1.2 MPI (Mulit Port Injection) with 74 HP and 112 Nm of torque, the 1.2 TSI (Turbo Stratified Injection) turbocharged with 84 HP and 160 Nm of torque or the 103 HP and 175 Nm and the 1.4 TSI with 121 HP And 200 Nm. All these engines will be mated to a five or six-speed manual, or seven-speed DSG(direct-shift gearbox) dual clutch automatic.
The new Skoda Rapid is placed between Skoda Fabia and Skoda Octavia, and it is the first of Skoda series cars which comes with newly formulated design language which is obvious in its dimensions, with clear and well contoured surfaces and sharp lines resulting in an attractive exterior with prettily fashioned interiors.
The front grille is formed of vertical slats fitted in a chrome frame, the vehicle’s new logo is prominently displayed in the form of a cloverleaf shape and is seen on the front edge of the bonnet. The tailgate displays a new design element while its taillights are in a new “C” shape. The model is 4,483 mm long, 1,706 mm wide and 1,461 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,602 mm.
It should be noted that, Skoda Rapid S models get features like: remote central locking, daytime running lights, a height-adjustable driver’s seat and electric front windows. The Rapid SE models adds, 15-inch alloy wheels, a leather-covered steering wheel and Bluetooth connectivity. While the top-of-the-range Elegance models have 16-inch alloys, front fog lamps, cruise control, a height-adjustable passenger seat and rear electric windows.
Skoda says that the European Rapid will be available to its future UK customers starting from £12,900, but for the top of the line version, Elegance Model, Britons will have to shell out £17,850, once the model will be available in the country. The Rapid is being produced at the Mlada Boleslav plant. Additional details on the model in the UK will be announced close to its launch.
