The driver of a 2014 Dodge Durango killed a 63-year-old man on Friday outside Miami International mall, as per Miami-Dade Police Department.

Ruben Betancourt was in motorist’s seat. Leonardo Vivancos, who was a shop manager at Mayors Jewelers, remained in the front passenger seat.

The two left the car at the delivery location of the mall, 1455 NW 107 Ave., and opened the rear door of the automobile.

Betancourt, 66, went back to the driver’s seat and “inadvertently struck the gas pedal, putting the automobile in reverse and striking Vivancos,” Investigator Marjorie Eloi stated in a declaration.

When Miami-Dade Fire Rescue showed up, Vivancos was dead. Sky 10 was above the scene as a tarpaulin covered his body.

“We observed it was going on for like 2 hours and, you understand, (there) were a lot of police entering and out,” Rooms To Go worker Maria Santana stated.

Alein Calaso, the Miami International Shopping mall supervisor, launched a declaration with a message of condolences for Vivancos’ family and friends.

Vivancos “was a valued and precious member of the Miami International Shopping mall community,” Calaso said.

Authorities continue to investigate the death.
