Subaru to keep U.S. assembly plant shutdown until May 8

Japanese automaker Subaru said it will extend a shutdown of its Indiana assembly plant through at least until May 8 because of drop in sales and supply chain issues related to the coronavirus crisis.

The company stated it plans to restart production on May 11. Many large automakers have said they hope to restart U.S. production on May 4, but some auto executives think the such a restart may be pushed to mid-May and will begin progressively.

About 641,919 people in the US have been confirmed as being infected with the coronavirus. The virus has killed 28,399 people in the country.
