Alfa Romeo recently announced that buyers of the Spider and the Brera will have the options to get the 1750 TBi petrol engine that gives out 200 bhp or the 2.0 JTDM diesel powerplant that outputs 170 bhp. These engines were used for the range of Alfa 159 back in 2009 and received good reviews.
The 1750 Tbi powerplant features direct injection, turbocharging, and variable valve timing. It is capable of giving out 200 bhp and a torque of 236 lb-ft while revving at only 1400 rpm. The two cars can blast from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 7.7 seconds (Brera) and 7.8 seconds (Spider). Their top speed is pegged at 146 miles per hour.
The Brera has a recorded carbon dioxide emission of 189 grams per kilometer while the Spider spews out 192 g/km. The routine checkup intervals for this Alfa Romeos are scheduled every 21K miles.
The 2.0 JTDM diesel engine can give out 265 lb-ft while at 1750 rpm. The Brera clocking in at 8.8 seconds and the Spider 9.0 seconds for a 0 to 62 mph run. The top speed for the two cars with the diesel engine is pegged at 135 mph while CO2 emissions are on the 142 g/km mark.
The Spider and Brera will also get a new trim, the Italia Independent. The cars will sport black 8-inch alloy rims, brake calipers in red, and a fuel cap made from aluminum and design inspired by the Alfa 8C. The interiors will be wrapped with leather and have red contrast stitches, aluminum pedals, trim insets made of carbon fiber, and a radio-satellite nav combo system.
