Learning to ride

It’s obvious that you need to know how to ride a motorbike before you can take one out on the road. Sure, you have passed your driving tests in a car. But you won’t have any motorcycle entitlement.

The first thing you need to do is get some motorbike riding lessons. Once you’ve got enough experience, you can book your motorcycle theory test. Assuming you ace it, you can then go for your practical tests too.

It goes without saying that you should only use a reputable motorcycle instructor. Spend some time researching the best ones to use in your area.

Choosing your first motorbike

Once you know how to ride a motorcycle, and you’ve got an updated driving licence, the real fun begins! That’s because you can spend some time looking for the perfect bike.

As with cars, there are thousands of different models of motorbikes available to buy. They come in a variety of different categories too.

For example, some get designed for off-road terrain (i.e. dirt bikes). If you plan to do lots of road trips, a touring motorcycle is essential for your needs. That’s because they allow you to carry more cargo with you.

Other people may prefer to buy a powerful motorbike that’s suitable for road use. I suggest avoiding superbikes for now. Why? Because you need more experience on the road before you can handle the extra power!

It goes without saying that you should only look for motorbikes that are within your budget. Don’t get into debt because you want a particular make and model. Instead, opt for one that you can afford to buy today and save up for your dream bike later.

Buying the right accessories

You would look a bit silly if you wore shorts and a T-shirt riding your bike. Not only that but wearing “ordinary” clothes is also dangerous too. Don’t forget that you haven’t got a metallic shell to protect you in a collision.

The must-have items for all bikers are as follows:

  • Helmet;
  • Leather trousers;
  • Leather jacket;
  • Boots; and
  • Gloves.

There are many different makes and styles for each item on the market. Choose ones that fit you well and are comfortable to wear. You should never sacrifice comfort for the sake of style.

Now that you know what to do, it’s time to get cracking. See you soon!
