As the UK continues to see an increase in the cases of coronavirus pandemic, the auto production has seen significant impact related to the virus as many automakers have closed the auto plants to help control the spread of the coronavirus.
About 146,615 engines were produced in March as UK production declines -40.0%.
Production for domestic car plants has decreased -35.7%, with steeper fall for exports, down -42.4%.
Over 598,000 engines built in Britain in first three months, with 59.4% exported.
“These figures show the significant impact of coronavirus-led shutdowns on automotive plants across the UK, with the closure of markets globally affecting the entire sector. However, attention is now turning to the safe restart of vehicle production, which, providing the end-consumer is ready, will drive engine demand. We need government support and coordination, however, to implement a clear plan for all for so that the industry can get back to delivering for the UK economy again,” said Mike Hawes, Chief Executive of Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT).
About 186,599 people in the UK have been confirmed as being infected with the coronavirus. The virus has killed 28,446 people in the country.
