Volkswagen e-load up! concept bows in Frankfurt

by SpeedLux

Volkswagen has introduced the much awaited e-load up! concept at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.

Basically a commercial van version of the e-up!, the e-load up! has been tagged as an agile city delivery vehicle that is suitable for services such as couriers, pizza delivery drivers and service technicians. As a result, the concept has been equipped with a variety of business friendly features that include plastic body cladding, blocked out rear windows and a fold-up passenger seat that enables the hatchback to carry more than 1,400 liters (49.4 cubic feet) of luggage.

Under the hood, the power is provided by an 18.7 kWh lithium-ion battery that powers an electric motor which generates a maximum output of 82 HP (60 kW) and 210 Nm (154 lb-ft) of torque. This enables the car to achieve the 0-100 kmph (0-62 mph) sprint in 12.4 seconds. The model can hit a top speed of 130 kmph (80 mph) and travel up to 160 km (99 miles) on a single charge.

The company declined to confirm if the e-load up! will go into the production phase but hinted that if there is right level of demand, a commercial vehicle version, such as the e-load up!, could also be available soon.
