Volkswagen stated on Friday it had stopped providing the T6 multivan to dealers after discovering that the diesel model released excessive nitrogen oxide levels and had reported the findings to Germany’s automotive watchdog (KBA).

Previously on Friday German publication Der Spiegel, without recognizing the source of its info, reported that automaker’s tests had shown that T6 toxic nitrogen oxide emissions in part substantially surpassed legal limits as automaker had set an emissions-related so-called “adjustment factor” too low when looking for KBA approval for the model.

“Volkswagen commercial automobiles is looking into indications that certain technical information … can not be completely verified” by reviews of the T6 model’s actual and scheduled emission levels, a spokesman for Volkswagen’s van division stated.

The spokesman dismissed the possibility that the engine management software was the cause of the “uncertainties”, and stated the automaker had agreed with the KBA to run more tests.

More than 2 years earlier, Volkswagen admitted to U.S. authorities that it had used a “defeat device” – or software – in diesel engines that could spot when they were being evaluated and change the efficiency accordingly to improve emissions results.

The Volkswagen commercial automobiles department’s Amarok pick-up truck and box-type Caddy model were linked in the automaker’s “dieselgate” scandal as they likewise carried the engine at the center of the manipulations, codenamed EA 189.

The van department spokesman did not comment on engine types, the range of vehicles impacted or when the designs in question were constructed. The KBA had no immediate talk about the issue.
