1928 Mercedes-Benz 680S grabs 2012 Pebble Beach Best of Show

Mercedes-Benz 680S Saoutchik Torpedo, elegant luxury car of 1928, has grabbed the coveted trophy of 2012 Pebble Beach Best of Show. Paul Andrews of White Settlement, Texas accepted the trophy and claims to have won six such awards for Mercedes-Benz since 2001.

He and Judy Andrews own the 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680S Saoutchik Torpedo.

The bodywork of the car was done by legendary French coachbuilder Jacques Saoutchik. According to Andrews, there may have been just thirteen of the 680S Saoutchiks created.

Andrews says the car has got beauty and great lines along with supercharged 6.8-liter engine to boast great power. It produces estimated horsepower between 200 and 300 and makes the noise similar to a bunch of screeching owls.

The car was changed to yellow from its original gray hue by the initial buyer then. Andrews and his team decided to give the car its original color. After great effort and attention they managed to restore the originality in more than two years abreast of researching the production history of the car. Now the result is evident with one more trophy.
