2 killed, 3 injured after car crash in Franklin County

Two people were killed after a car crash on Route 37 in Franklin County, Illinois on Wednesday. 

The crash took place when a car was traveling north on Route 37 and slowed down to make a left turn. The driver of a truck failed to reduce the speed and struck the car. The car was then forced into the path of an SUV. The truck then hit an oncoming Jeep.

The driver of the car, a 37-year-old man, and his passenger, a 27-year-old woman were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Three others injured in the crash were admitted to the hospital.

The driver of the truck, 18-year-old Jacob Simmons has been cited for failure to reduce speed to prevent a crash. 

Illinois State Police is investigating the crash.
