Audi has disclosed the V8-powered version of the R8 Spyder. The 4.2-liter FSI V8 engine powers the new R8 Spyder, dubbed as the entry-level car. The new R8 Spyder comes equipped with a engine that is capable of producing 430 hp or 316 kW of peak power while the torque levels are rated at 430 Nm or 317.15 lb-ft.
The new car’s crankshaft runs at a speed range of 4,500 and 6,000 rpm. The car can therefore, sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in about 4.8 seconds. The top speed registered during the in house tests suggests a maximum speed of 299 km/h i.e. 185.79 mph.
The engine can be optionally fitted with the R tronic sequential manual gearbox or a manual 6-speed gearbox. However, all-wheel drive remains the standard for Quattro. The sedans fuel consumption in case of automatic transmission is about 13.9 liters per 100 km i.e. 16.92 US mpg whereas the model having manual transmission have fuel consumption of 14.9 liters per 100 km i.e. 15.79 US mpg. In the third quarter of 2010 the German showrooms would have the R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI quattro on display and for test drives. Sale price of the new sedan is expected to commence at a base price of €121,000.
