2011 Cadillac Ciel Concept Unveiled At Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance: Official Specs, Photos and Video

by Sebastian Bivin

Representing a possible future design direction for the brand, the four-seater and four door Cadillac Ciel Concept was unveiled at 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Cadillac Ciel (meaning Sky in French) is the latest and most impressive convertible concept from Cadillac that brings back its strong and heavily loaded with history background through its fine penciled design lines.

“Large, expressive luxury is innate to Cadillac and the Ciel recalls that heritage, while suggesting where the brand can go in the future. Authentic luxury is driven by experiences, not just products, and Ciel is about the experience of the journey,” Clay Dean, global design director for Cadillac.

This beauty is powered by a 3.6L V6 engine with twin turbochargers (DOHC, continuously variable valve timing and direct injection), with a total output of 425-hp and a peak torque of 430 lb-ft. The engine is mated to a hybrid transmission with low-speed all-electric drive. Still, the concept is also capable of all-electric drive for short distances being perfect for the traffic commute.

The concept has an impressive wheelbase of 125-inches, 12 inches longer than a CTS sedan and overall length cresting 200 inches. This might be the reason why those massive 22-inch wheels look pretty small. However, carbon ceramic brake rotors are visible behind the rims, a visual clue to the Ciel’s foundation of performance.

At the inside, the Ciel concept is finished in a number of premium materials, ranging from nickel-plated trim and machined aluminium to hand-tipped leather and Italian Olive wood. The manufacturer says the wood used in the Ciel Concept was painstakingly prepared from the body of a single fallen tree. Here the modern technology teamed with old-world charm continues the unique style. Beside this, the new concept features a connectivity portal for each occupant, allowing them to do anything from upload photos to make dinner reservations, inductive charging and full Bluetooth connectivity for mobile devices and transparent instrument gauges with analogue and digital readouts and an information hierarchy.

“With the Ciel, the journey is the thing, so the interior is a place of uncompromising comfort and elegance, with technology that only makes the journey more enjoyable,” said Buzyn. “Simplicity and lightness ensure nothing distracts from the open driving experience, while the color and materials lend the feeling that the vehicle’s environment blends with the surroundings.”

AS for the exterior, it features a special nickel-coating, and its lines appear to flow seamlessly into the cabin, with the body color rolling over on top of the interior door panels. Also, you can easily see that those headlights are full LED units.

Finally, the luxurious brand, Cadillac managed to blow everyone away with the Ciel concept which somehow is going back to its roots.
