2012 Toyota Yaris Hybrid – Revealed in Geneva

by Site Default

The 2012 Geneva Motor Show is now underway, and the Japanese from Toyota revealed their 2012 Yaris Hybrid as a bigger replacement for the Prius C. This Yaris will be the first B-Segment hybrid in Europe.

Powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline Atkinson cycle engine combined with a smaller and lighter electric motor, the 2012 Yaris Hybrid gets a total power of 154 horsepower (74 from the gasoline engine and 80 from the electric motor). This power is achieved in spite of the mass reduction in comparison with the previous Yaris (the engine alone is 42 kg lighter).

The fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are worthy of a Hybrid, and even worthy of a Toyota Hybrid (we know that this company makes some of the best hybrids on the market, see Toyota Prius). Fuel consumption is 3l/100km or roughly 67mpg, and CO2 emissions have been reduced to about 79 g/km.

The new Yaris announces to quickly become a mainstream vehicle thanks to the performance brought by the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD), and the fact that it’s going to be the first B-Segment hybrid in the “old continent”. It is expected that this car will go on sale sometime this late spring, or early summer (probably end of May). Price will probably start at around $25,000.
