Skoda Auto has revealed the octavia officially.
The third-generation Octavia comes with a new, Rapid-inspired design, new safety and comfort systems and an unrivaled space offering says Skoda.
Compared to its predecessor, the Octavia is 90 mm longer and 45 mm wider, with a wheelbase growing by 108 mm. This has resulted into more room for passengers, as front head room is 8 mm higher, front elbow width is 39 mm bigger and rear elbow width is 26 mm bigger than in the second-generation Octavia. Boot volume is also bigger than it was before, at 590 liters. Apart from being larger, the new Octavia is 102 kg lighter than the outgoing model, due to lightweight engineering.
The new Octavia is equipped with a Front Assistant/emergency braking function, Lane Assistant, which keeps the Octavia on track, multicollision-braking/automatic brake actuation in an accident, Crew Protect Assistant/securing of the vehicle in an accident situation, Driver Activity Assistant (fatigue detection) or an active front hatch for pedestrian protection. The car has up to nine airbags, including knee airbags and rear side airbags, available for the first time in a Skoda Octavia.
As for the engines, the Octavia will be offered with a range of eight powerplants, with the most economical being the 1.6 TDI (110 HP), which in GreenLine version consumes 3.4 liters of diesel per 100 km (CO2 emissions of 89 g/km). There will be four petrol engines with TSI technology and four TDI common-rail diesel engines, with the most powerful being the 1.8 TSI with 180 HP.
Regardless of which engine is selected, it will be connected to a “modern manual” or a DSG transmission. Front wheel drive will be standard, but all-wheel drive will be optional.
