2014 Tour de France: the cars behind the bikes

The Tour de France is considered as most gruelling sporting events in the world in which riders are among the fittest athletes. The competitors need to cover up to 150 miles thrice a week.

One website writes they had taken a seat in one of the Skoda course cars in the third stage that ran from Cambridge to London. They saw the preparation as well as maintenance of it.

The website writes it is easy to see why the brand is so popular in cycling. They saw the interior was spacious and the car can cover more than 2,000 miles. Analysts say fuel economy is the key in the vehicle.

Skoda started as bicycles manufacturer in 1890s. Later they came up with powered bicycles and followed it with motorcycles. They built their first car in 1905.

In such a long journey things have changed vastly and now the auto giant offers countless cars, almost everything – from commissaire to service cars.

Not all the team favored Skoda estate cars. Some used Jaguars where as other an XFR-S Sportbrake. Some used Tinkoff-Saxio opts for BMWs and French outfit. However, the Skoda version has full-lengh sunroof to allow the racers keep an eye on the proceedings.

All the teams were first lined up behind the riders before the race started.
