2015 Jaguar XJ Spotted

by SpeedLux

Very recently, a prototype of what will seemingly be the Jaguar XJ for the 2015 model year has been spotted. Wearing very minor camouflage, the car has been spotted performing some final tests. Judging by the look of the car, it seems that this will be a facelift instead of an all-new version of the British automaker’s XJ vehicle lineup.

Speaking of the XJ moniker from Jaguar, the car first went on sale some 4 to 5 years ago, back in the year 2010. Codenamed the X351, the XJ was actually the automaker’s flagship sedan model and now, the company is trying to rejuvenate it with a facelift. It is not known for sure why the British company chooses not to offer customers with an all-new model, which should be due already for most automakers after any of their particular vehicle models have been rolling on the streets for nearly five years. More on that later, though. Speaking of the facelifted version of the model, when it was spied, the car only had camouflage on its headlamps and taillights.

Since this is a facelift, it seems that the British automaker will not be offering any new engines just yet. So, expect to see the engine being carried over from the current XJ model. However, it is not entirely impossible that Jaguar will also be considering a plug-in hybrid variant of the XJ model. After all, it was already previewed before by the XJ_e prototype back in the year 2012. This one comes with an engine configuration comprising a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine, a 69kWh electric motor and a 12.3kWh lithium-ion battery. Power is rated at 334 hp and the car takes just 6.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. Having a top speed of 250 km/h, the car should be able to go as far as 40 km with its electric power before needing a recharge.

According to reports, the 2015 Jaguar XJ facelift will come out within just a few months’ time and it will be on sale at least until 2017, if not 2018. It is when the company will introduce a completely new Jaguar XJ model which is claimed to have a radical design.
