Three people were killed, and three Charleston County deputies were injured following a range of crashes that took place along Savannah Highway on Monday morning.

In the first crash at around 11:00 p.m., a deputy was on the way to offer assistance to a disabled motorist when they crashed with a vehicle near New Road.

Several people inside the vehicle had been injured after the driver and two passengers in that vehicle became entrapped.

They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputy, named Emily Pelletier, was admitted to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).

Later, around 2:30 a.m., while attempting to block traffic, a vehicle failed to stop and hit another cruiser.

Two deputies were inside the cruiser. They were identified as Deputy Jonathon Rand and Deputy Joy DeSomber, after becoming entrapped in the vehicle.

They were also admitted to MUSC with serious injuries.

Savannah Highway was closed for some hours while crews investigated the crashes.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is also investigating the crash.
