4 people dead, 3 injured after wrong-way car crash in Boone County

Four people were killed and three others were seriously injured following a wrong-way vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 63 in Boone County, Missouri on Monday night.

A 19-year-old identified as Keith L. Sumner was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 63 when his car crashed head-on with a sport utility vehicle driven by Jessica D. McKinlay, 29, of Columbia, carrying five other occupants.

Both drivers died due to the crash. Two passengers in McKinlay’s SUV identified as Christopher S. McClain, 34, of Columbia, and a 10-year-old girl were also dead.

Three other children aged between 2 – 6 in McKinlay’s vehicle were admitted to University Hospital with serious injuries.

The northbound traffic was closed for some hours after the crash.

Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
