5 cars stolen, 30 burglarized in overnight spree, police say

A 15-year-old kid was detained Tuesday in connection with 5 vehicle thefts and 30 car robberies that took place in the main part of Naperville, Illinois.

The teenager, a Chicago citizen, was found behind the wheel of one of the taken vehicles near Tamarack Drive and Washington Street at about 5 a.m., the same time police were examining a number of robberies to motor automobiles and reports of automobiles being stolen from outdoors homes in the contiguous Hobson West, Maplebrook, Olympic Terrace and West Highlands neighborhoods, Cmdr. Jason Arres said in a news release.

Authorities pulled the teen over, just to have him take off on foot, Arres said. He was taken into custody a brief time later on and charged as a juvenile with theft, belongings of a stolen vehicle, obstructing recognition and withstanding arrest.

Investigators likewise found a sixth stolen car in the location, which was reported taken in Chicago.

The automobiles reported stolen in Naperville included a maroon 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck; a silver 2007 Saturn Ion vehicle; a grey 2007 Chrysler Sebring car; and a black 2016 Audi A4 luxury vehicle. Authorities did not expose exactly what type of vehicle the suspect was driving when apprehended.

Arres reminded locals and visitors to Naperville to lock their automobiles, to not leave belongings within them, and to not leave type in a vehicle when not in use.

Stats show 89 percent of car robberies in 2015 in the city “were to unlocked vehicles,” Arres said.
