General Motors is full ahead on advancement work on the 2019 fullsize trucks, as observed from these shots of the next-generation GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 testing in Colorado.
The automaker has done an excellent job of cladding the trucks in such a way that they seem to be Ford F-150s. However, there are a few free gifts that they’re from the General. We’ve already identified the front window cut-down is a phony. A close look at the rear bumper reveals the GM’s signature bumper corner steps, a function that debuted on the 2014 models. The front LED driving lights are likewise lower on the fascia than on the F-150.
One intriguing change noted on this specific group of mules compared to past spy shots is the exhaust tips. Most of the models we know up until this point have had rectangular double rear outlets. These tips are round.
Considering how strongly GM is promoting diesels in its other designs– such as the Chevrolet Colorado, Cruze, and Equinox, in addition to the GMC Surface– we feel the likelihood of a V-6 diesel in the next-gen Silverado and Sierra 1500 is virtually a given. We’re hoping a 3.0-3.5 L V-6 with at least 250 hp and over 400 lb-ft of torque. We anticipate the main transmission to be the brand-new 10-speed automatic developed with Ford. Lower-trim models may keep the eight-speed 8L90E automatic.
