Toyota Motor, chipmaker Intel Corp and other technology and automobile companies are establishing a consortium to create an environment for big data used in connected automobiles, the Japanese automaker stated.
Swiss telecom devices maker Ericsson, Japanese auto parts maker Denso and telecoms firm NTT DoCoMo are likewise part of the group, called the Automotive Edge Computing Consortium.
The consortium intends to use data to support emerging services including intelligent driving, creating maps with real-time data and driving help based upon cloud computing, Toyota stated.
As cars are geared up with new abilities, from remaining in lanes to driving themselves, they are using and producing large quantities of information, including where they drive.
Data volume between cars and the cloud is anticipated to reach 10 exabytes monthly around 2025, about 10,000 times larger compared to the present, Toyota said.
Recently, Toyota and smaller sized competitor Mazda Motor stated that they would work jointly on producing electric and connected vehicles.
