The daughter of ousted Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn early on Friday took documents and cash from a corporate apartment in Rio de Janeiro, capping a legal battle over the objects, which the automaker maintains may have evidence of wrongdoing.

The midnight visit by Ghosn’s daughter Caroline, accompanied by two court officers and multiple Nissan lawyers, followed a week-long legal brawl over the apartment, particularly over the contents of three safes. An
appellate judge on Thursday granted her access to the beachfront apartment over the opposition of Nissan.

Brazilian-born Ghosn was arrested previous month and indicted this week in Japan for supposedly under-reporting his earning. Nissan also alleges him of diverting company funds to pay for personal expenditures.

Nissan has stated the contents of the safes would consist documents detailing irregularities and cried foul as its lawyers were not permitted to see safes being opened last night. A spokeswoman for Ghosn stated there were no documents in them.

Both parties accept that documents were discovered in the apartment but outside the safe. Nissan representatives unsuccessfully tried to evaluate the papers, a company spokesman stated.
