Takata air bag recall, Airbag Recall

Toyota Motor Corp’s North America unit stated on Thursday it was carrying out the final phase of a safety recall to replace potentially defective Takata airbag inflators in about 928,000 automobiles.

Previously inserted Takata inflators are going to be replaced by those produced by other providers ahead of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s schedule, the company stated.

No less than 24 deaths have been linked to the rupturing of faulty Takata air bag inflators globally, about 16 of these 24 deaths occurred in the United States.

The fault led Takata to file for bankruptcy protection in June 2017.

Toyota stated owners of vehicles recalled in the United States would be informed by mid-December.
