Suzuki extends Gujarat plant shutdown till 31st March due to coronavirus

Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Ltd on Tuesday stated Maruti Suzuki has decided to extend its plant shutdown till 31st March because of coronavirus.

Previously, the shutdown was till 25th March 2020. Maruti Suzuki informed BSE about the extension in duration of closure of the Suzuki Gujarat Plant.

SMG manufactures vehicles on a contract basis for Maruti Suzuki India. It currently provides Baleno hatchback to Maruti Suzuki.

“Maruti Suzuki has been informed by Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt Limited (SMG) that pursuant to the recent Gujarat Government directive on the COVID-19 situation, they are extending their plant closure till 31st March 2020. Earlier the shutdown was till 25th March 2020. SMG manufactures cars on a contract basis for Maruti Suzuki, ” the company stated in a regulatory filing.

About 519 people in India have been confirmed as being infected with the coronavirus. The virus has killed 10 people in the country.
