Nissan Vietnam will close its plant in the central city of Da Nang for 15 days from April 5 to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
The company’s 25 dealers nationwide will be also closed from April 1-15 in line with the government’s social distancing campaign, the Japanese automaker stated.
Automakers such as Ford, Toyota, TC Motor and Honda had all shut down production temporarily in the country before Nissan to protect their workers amidst the increasing number of confirmed Covid-19 coronavirus infections in the country.
About 233 people in Vietnam have been confirmed as being infected with the coronavirus. Until now there has been no death related to coronavirus in the country. About 85 have been discharged after recovery.
On 31 March, Vietnamese government announced a nationwide lockdown of 15 days, starting from April 1.
Yamaha Motor has also closed their motorbike production from April 1 to April 15.
Auto sales in the first two months dropped 27 percent year-on-year to 33,400 units, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA).
Last year, car sales increased 11.7 percent to 322,322 units, VAMA said.
