Volkswagen halts production in Brazil for 12 days due to coronavirus

Volkswagen will temporarily halt auto production in Brazil for 12 days as of March 24 because of the worsening COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the automaker said on Friday.

Brazil is South America’s top auto producer and a key base for Volkswagen.

It is also the most coronavirus affected country in South America.

About 11,871,390 people in Brazil have been confirmed as being infected with the coronavirus. The virus has killed 290,314 people in the country.
