Grand Canyon Basketball Player Oscar Frayer Killed In Car Crash

Grand Canyon University basketball player Oscar Frayer died following a car accident in Lodi, California on Tuesday.

The crash took place three days after the Antelopes played in the NCAA Tournament for the first time, the school announced Thursday.

He was 23 years old.

His sister, 28-year-old Andrea Moore, was also killed with a friend in the car crash.

Two California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers were hurt after an SUV crashed into the back of their parked patrol car on southbound Interstate 5 near Lodi.

The SUV continued into a tree and caught fire. CHP all of the three people, including Frayer and Moore, died. The impact sent the patrol vehicle into a dirt embankment, leaving the officers with severe injuries.

Officials say both officers are expected to survive.

Oscar Frayer was just 7 years old when he lost his father in a car accident.

Frayer, a senior, was a four-year starter at Grand Canyon and finished his academic requirements to graduate in April. The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 6.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while helping the Lopes to win the Western Conference Athletic Tournament for the first time.

The Oakland, California, native had returned to Northern California after completing with eight points, five assists, and three blocked shots in GCU’s loss to Iowa at the NCAA Tournament in Indianapolis.

Frayer’s teammates reacted to the news of his death and shared their condolences on social media.
