A Metrolink train hit an unoccupied vehicle that seemed to have stalled on the tracks at a crossing in Pacoima, Los Angeles on Friday, injuring seven people.
The seven individuals were taken to hospitals with moderate injuries.
The crash was reported at 11:10 a.m. and 10 passengers complaining of pain were evaluated by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. Three refused further treatment and the remaining seven suffered fair-to-moderate injuries, according to the officials.
The train traveled a few hundred yards after striking the vehicle at a crossing near Paxton Street, finally stopping near Van Nuys Boulevard.
The train was said to have belonged to Amtrak, but it turned out to be an Amtrak locomotive pulling Metrolink passenger cars on Metrolink’s 212 line.
The tracks were shut down for some time and traffic on San Fernando Road was slowed because of the fire equipment in place at the scene. As of 12:22 p.m., the 212 line was moving again, but operating with a delay of an hour and 40 minutes because of the accident.
