Some classic cars are going under the hammer during the auction to be held by RM Auctions on the 27th of October. Cars made popular by their movie presence like the George Barris 1966 Batmobile and the James Bond fame 1964 Aston Martin DB5 are all coming up during this auction. The place is London where the auctioneers have selected for this momentous occasion. The original Aston is expected to fetch US $5 million and above when the hammer falls down.
This is the same car that featured onscreen in the classic movies of Goldfinger and Thunderball starring Sean Connery. This is also one of the two DB5 remaining and has that hallmark UK registration number of FMP 7B. Reasons big enough to draw large attention.
The car also has been modified by none other than John Stears, known for his special effect talents for which he has won many an Oscar. The modifications add these special effects features to the original Bond movie car.
A central switch fixed at the arm rest has control over features like firing off a machine gun installed on the car, pulling up a shield that provides bullet proofing to the car, a roof panel that gets removed and then the likes of oil sprayer, nail spreader and smoke screen that we are familiar with in the bond movies. The car even has a tracking device. Makes up for the real original feel of what we perceived in the movies.
The legacy for ownership of the car runs just to one person other than James Bond.
The car was leased to the EON productions for the filming job of the two movies. Thereafter the car was returned to its maker the Aston Martin Logonda factory after it went through a special promotional tour.
The car then changed hands only in 1969 when it was bought by Jerry Lee a radio station owner in Philadelphia. He had paid a sum of US $12.000 for the purchase. In his possession the car was out of public view for 41 years. Jerry Lee has now decided to put up the car for sale via auction and use the proceeds for a charitable trust the Jerry Lee Foundation.
Jerry Lee has voiced his love for the car when he stated that the car had been a source of immense joy for him all through its 40 years with him. He has also gone on to say that the car would be furthering its goodness by the trust that the money it sells for would be running.
