Oakley Design tweaks the 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia

by Alex

Oakley Design that shot into limelight with its customization programme of the Porsche 997 GT2, is coming up with a tuning kit for the newest Ferrari 458 Italia.

The car being near perfect in its present get up has made Oakley Design rethink their tuning efforts. They have went on to install a front spoiler made of carbon-fiber, a move that has resulted in the addition of 45 Kg of down force over the front axle at 150 mph (240 km/hr). Apart from that, the radiator vent has been positioned centrally so that the channel air blows out over the bonnet rather than under the car. This also lends the Ferrari the looks of a racing car. They have also placed new air exit ducts on the side of the headlamps that lends the car a fresh new look.

Coming to the rear, a new spoiler with Gurney flaps have been installed which adds 25 kg of down force at 150 kmph over the rear axle. Then there’s a new carbon fibre roof panel, mirror covers along with an engine cover insert underneath the rear window glass that have been included in the tuning kit for the 458 Italia. Also, the inner wings and rear bulkhead in the engine bay have been covered with panels again made of carbon fibre.

For sound optimization the car is installed with titanium exhaust system with triple outlet pipes. Having no bypass valve has reduced about 30 kg from the Italia’s rear section.

A further 8 kg weight reduction has been effected per corner by fitting the car with lightweight composite wheels that measure 20 inch and have been conceived by Oakely design. The engine fitted on the 458 Italia has a rating of 570 bhp and 540 Nm torque.  The tuning kit has tweaked these figures further so that the car now makes 627 bhp and 567 nm of torque. The pickup statistics reads 0 to 100 km/hr in 3.0 seconds flat which is a betterment in performance by 0.4 seconds than the standard version. The tuned car also has top speed of 330 km/hr. Now its time for the bad part of this entire programme – there will be only 5 cars ever to be made conforming to the tuning specifications. Yes, there will be only 5 of them and each of the cars will come equipped with a unique build number plaque.
