When Wolfgang Duerheimer had said in April that he was looking for a thousand people who were seriously interested in making a business case with his company he must have had the Porsche 918 Spyder in mind. The car to be unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show was what he had been referring to.

It was just months later that Porsche announced the receipt of the 1000 probable and interested customers. The customers had sent in their letter of interest and this was enough for Porsche to put the gear in grid for its production to start on the hybrid supercar to come. Official booking would also soon commence. It’s at Pebbel Beach where this booking could be completed against instant cash deposit.

Given the overwhelming response received for the 918, the Porsche people are raring to go into production mode full swing, revealed a Porsche employee in an interview. Figures however he mentioned had not yet been finalised and therefore no official announcement can yet be expected.

The specification of the car runs thus. A V8 engine which has an output of more than 500 hp will be powering the car. It also has three electric motors which provide a power of 218 hp. As far as emission standards are concerned the engine spews out just 70 grams of CO2 per kilometer. Fuel consumption of the car is 3 liter / 100 km which translates to 94 mpg imp. Pick up of the car would be a 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and maintain top speeds of 198 mph. The car also had a lap time of 7.30 minutes at the Nordschleife of Nürburgring. This is faster than the Porsche Carrera GT.
