Jeep intends to make its presence felt in the pickup truck segment again

by Alex

Since 1992 Jeep has not come out with any other model. That was the year when they gave the Jeep Comanche to us. There is however some chance that they are soon going to come up with a midsize pickup truck.

During the first drive of the 2011 Grand Cherokee, Mike Manley, the president and CEO of the Jeep Brand revealed in an interview about interest in the Grand Cherokee segment. He had pointed out the fact that even though the US economy had gone through rough times given the global economic meltdown, the automotive sector yet remained a leading product and continues to be equally important on a global scale.  He advocated interest in improving the brand though he also added that given their past records they would not deviate from the Jeep heritage to any great extent.

This remark from the CEO points towards the making of a pickup for many. He had also added that they were not limiting their search to the present Jeep but also some future thinking opportunities also.

The past has given us enough scope to take note of the various pickup truck concept vehicles from Jeep. One that seems to stand out is the Jeep Scrambler which was presented at the 2003 NADA convention held at San Francisco. With a just a few hours on display the car was pulled out never to be seen again. Similar was the issue with the Gladiator concept showcased in 2005.

Since then we have had the Jeep JT in 2007 and the J8 Serge in 2008 with the most recent one being the Jeep Nukizer 715 in Moab, Utah, at the Easter Jeep Safari event.
