All of the cars from MINI leave aside the Countryman Crossover which it has only recently introduced, have been given a subtle facelift along with some new diesel engines for the 2011 model year. This change has been effected even in the hatchback, Clubman and convertible models.
The bumper for all these cars has been given a new design. For one, they have an improved pedestrian protection which has been achieved through larger deformation zone. They have also been fitted with new side indicators which are seated on redesigned side gill housings. The rear bumper also has been redesigned with tail lights of LED and headlights made of new light elements.
The interior too has undergone quite a few changes. The center console has redesigned controls. There is a change in the air conditioning and audio systems. New material has also been used for the upholstery which cones in six options. There are three new fascia options and two new interior color lines for the side panels and the door.
There is also the new retractable roller type luggage compartment cover that is found on the Clubman and all models would have an updated audio and navigation system fitted on them.
The engine is a 1.6 liter diesel run power house. It shares the same bore/stroke ratio. It also has an aluminium construction and a direct injection system. The engine incorporates turbo charging technology with variable turbine geometry just like the BMW’s 2.0 liter diesel units. The MINI would be available in two versions, one with a 90 HP (One D) and other with 112 HP (Cooper D).
The one D hatch has an acceleration of 0 to 100 kmph (62 mph) in 11.4 seconds flat. Top speeds of 185 kmph that is 115 mph, with fuel economy of 3.8 liter per 100 km. that would be 74.3 mph UK or 61.9 MPG in US. The combined mode the emission rate is 99 gm/km.
On the other side is the Cooper D that one boasts of 0 to 198 kmph or 123 mph in 9.7 seconds. The fuel efficiency and the emission rates are same as that of the One D.
MINI convertible as pr MINI would also be available in diesel version. The entire 2011 MINI is expected to be going up for sale in September.
