One more Ferrari is scheduled to be launched at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in mid-August. This one would be based on the 599GTB Fiorano but would have an open top. That’s a dream car so to say and would be having a V12 reputed for its high revs.
The rendering though, indicates a car that be based on a roadster and not at all looking like the 575-based Superamerica. The Superamerica had the Fioravanti-designed glass top which was hinged at the B pillars and also had the feature of flipping 180 degrees to settle at the trunk top. This one with the 599 roadster make would have metal folding rooftop and also a more conventional type. One can note the similarity of this car with the Ferrari California which has the V8 engine powering it.
With its open top design the 599 would get a power boost of 635 hp which is far greater than the 612 hp of the regular design 599 models. The acceleration should therefore be 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Top speeds is expected to be 200 mph. It would be a fast one indeed and the sound of the engine as it penetrates the occupants of the car due the open roof top would be indeed sheer powerful rock music. The cars are expected to hit sales by mid 2011 and the starting price should be about $400,000. After all style and power comes for a price. The name has yet to be decided and would be a romantic one as per Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo.
If one has to search for alternatives to compare it is the Aston Martin DBS Volante and a little away would be the Bentley Continental Supersports convertible. The future cars of SLS AMG from Mercedes Benz and the Murcielago from Lamborghini would also be close contenders but not pedigree as the Ferrari 599 in that class.
