Jaguar developing new crossover with an aluminum body and chassis

by Alex

There are plans from Jaguar to push in 40 new cars in the near future which can be either variants of existing models or different technological get up. Its biggest rival is the BMW 3 Series and as of now Jaguar is hell bent on taking on this challenge with a model that would be different from the old X-Type. There is also the project wherein Jaguar is working on the C-X75 Concept. Then there are reports that the company would be using a highly advanced aluminum body for this SUV/crossover, which will be fuel-efficient being extremely lightweight on its own.

However, it would be a four years wait that one would have to undergo for this model. The total weight of the aluminium body would be 200-300 kg or 441-661 lbs lighter than that of a car body with a conventional steel body. The chassis upon which the model would be built would also be of aluminium. It is therefore very much possible that this car would come out to be the lightest crossovers that are available in the market today.

There would be numerous engine option that will be offered with the car. There is the 2.2 liter diesel engine as well a 3.0 liter V6 which would have two power ratings of varying index and this would prove to be the competitive element of this car compared with Mercedes and BMW. There is also the option of the car having a petrol engine which would be a 3.7 liter V6 unit or a turbocharged 2.0 liter four cylinder engine which is also fitted on the Range Rover Evoque. For transmission the engine would be mated to an eight speed automatic transmission as well as an all-wheel drive system.
