Report: Ford Fusion Concept inspired by Evos to be Unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show

by Adrian Hayden

If you’re one of our readers, then you might remember the Ford Evos Concept (pictured above), a car that made its official debut at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Well, it seems that the American car maker wants to take things to another level by unveiling at the next year’s Detroit Auto Show an all-new Fusion Concept inspired by the Evos Concept, at least according to 4wheelsnews.

After some minor technical modifications, the new model is expected to replace the Ford Mondeo in Europe, while we shoul expect to see some styling elements from the Evos Concept making this car a little more aggressive in terms of design. These styling elements includes the angular headlamps as well as the trapezoidal front grille and cooling apertures.

As for the powertrain, expect the new Ford Fusion to take its power from Ford’s new EcoBoost engines such the 2.0-liter I-4 used by the Explorer and the Edge.

According to the same report, a diesel version is not confirmed for United States, but the Mondeo will definitely offer it in Europe. In addition to that, some rumors say that the new Ford Fusion might come also as hybrid version, but this remains to be seen. The new plug-in hybrid system, similar to the one used by the 2012 Ford C-Max Energi, is expected to deliver a range of 50 milles powered only by the electric motors and the energy stored in the lithium-ion batteries.
