Nissan’s VP of global product planning Andy Palmer has confirmed that the current GT-R (R35) will be replaced by 2013.
Next-generation GT-R is not an all-new car, it is rather an evolution of the current platform, keeping the current model’s twin-turbo V6 and the drivetrain.
Of course this engine will get plenty of modifications to stay in competition as GT-R’s main rival Porsche GT2 will see a replacement also by that time packing reportedly close to 550 horsepower.
Mr. Palmer told PistonHeads that the new GT-R is not going to be a massive one-off investment, it’s more a case of putting a bit of money into the programme every year, to make sure we keep the GT-R where it needs to be.
If a new GT-R comes in 2013 it makes its lifespan of 5-6 years similar to Porsche’s 911 GT2. Stay tuned for more as it is just a matter of time when we will be bringing you first spy photos of the new GT-R.
