Nissan Esflow and Townpod Concepts Coming to Tokyo: Info and Photos

by Zack Colt

Well, I suppose that we already got used to Nissan trying to fill the worlds auto market with electric cars, reason for which the fact that they announced they will be bringing no less than three electric cars to this year’s Tokyo Motor Show doesn’t surprise us at all.

One of the three is the Esflow which made its world debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in March this year. It is rear-wheel drive and it runs on two electric motors that are placed above the axis of the rear wheels, in a mid-ship position. esides that, it has been designed as a pure EV sportscar. Power comes from lithium-ion battery packs, the same as those used in the Nissan LEAF, which enable the car to travel over 240 km
(150 miles) on one charge.

“These motors independently control the left and right wheels, and so the torque is optimised to ensure outstanding vehicle stability and control as well as efficient power regeneration. The motors produce enough torque in an instant for it to reach 100kph in under 5 seconds,” a company statement reads.

Another is the Townpod Concept, which was unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. It is said to be suitable for business or pleasure or for those to whom business is pleasure.

The car features charging points that can be found in the nose behind an automatically retracting cover, which appears to be backlit thanks to its electric blue painted surrounds. Similar electric blue hints are visible behind the door handles, number plate, the spokes of the alloy wheels and within the headlamp pods.

The interiour has been fitted with a dual screen display, having the upper monitor serving as an instrument panel, displaying car speed, battery status and remaining range as well as a satellite navigation system and the lower touchscreen providing all controls for the navigation system and operating the audio system.
