4Volvo XC60 updated for 2013 with new diesel model

The Volvo XC60 has been updated for 2013 with the addition of a new diesel model, new features and, fittingly for the safety-focused Swedish brand.
Dubbed as the XC60 D4, the new turbo-diesel Volvo joins the T5 model to provide the Swedish giant with a two-pronged front-wheel-drive XC60 lineup.

DRIVELINE-
The T6 petrol engine has a displacement of 3.0 litres and pumps out 304 hp and no less than 440 Nm of torque. Fuel consumption is 10.7 l/100 km (EU Combined). The engine’s power is delivered to the wheels via Volvo’s second-generation six-speed automatic Geartronic transmission. All Wheel Drive (AWD) is standard.
The six-cylinder 3.2-litre naturally aspirated engine offers 243 hp and maximum torque is 320 Nm.
The XC60 is also available with the 2-litre GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) T5 producing 240 hp and torque of 320 Nm. Fuel consumption down is 8.5 l/100 km.
The five-cylinder D5 turbodiesel, has 215 hp and 440 Nm of torque. The D5 with manual gearbox has fuel consumption at 5.7 l/100 km (CO2 emissions at 149 g/km).
Volvo Car Corporation extends the diesel offer with a new entry-level 5-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbo diesel. The D3 engine has an output of 136 hp and maximum torque at 350 Nm. It is available both with a manual and an automatic gearbox. All variants have start/stop.
The diesel engine offer also includes the D4 with 163 hp.
Fuel consumption (EU Combined) in both engines is 5.7 l/100 km (149 g/km) with the manual gearbox and 6.8 l/100 km (178 g/km) with the automatic.

EXTERIOR-
Down below,with the crossover muscles getting pumped up, it created a strong athletic body that is mated with high ground clearance and large wheels.
Up above, the flowing lines create the sporty charisma of a coupe. The sculpted lines are particularly clear when the XC60 is viewed from the side. The car’s shoulders are exceptionally broad. The large wheels, the bold wheel arches and the darker livery of the body’s lower section further enhance the muscular feel.
The rear design is characterised by tail lamps with micro-optics and LED technology.
The new, extrovert Rebel Blue is an addition in the colour programme, available on R-Design and Inscription versions.
Whereas the roof rails provide a solid and tight impression. They are available in two factory-fitted versions: Charcoal (standard) or Silk Metal.

The bold attitude of the Volvo XC60 R-Design radiates true driving pleasure. The R-Design model boosts the XC60’s already sporty aura and gives the car an even more refined character in terms of both driving experience and design. The Volvo XC60 is also available in the exclusive Inscription version – designed around customers who want to add an extra luxurious, personal touch to the dynamic XC capability.The Inscription buyer can choose between four colours on the seats, fully upholstered in fine semi-aniline quality leather. The XC60 Inscription package also includes several other distinctive interior features and the possibility to spice up the edgy appeal with additional options like the charcoal headliner, special effect paint and 20-inch wheels.

INTERIOR-
The interior is driver-oriented and designed to create a dynamic feel. The characteristic floating centre console gives a dynamic and sporty impression. The centre console is slightly angled towards the driver to enhance driver dynamics. The visual “X” in the seats and backrests enhances the dynamic appearance.

Volvo Sensus is an excellent example of how Volvo Cars defines the driver environment. A five-inch or seven-inch colour screen in the upper part of the centre stack.
All the functions can be controlled via buttons built into the steering wheel or via touch buttons located just below the colour screen.
The Bluetooth connection allows hands-free phone conversations as well as music streaming from a preferred Bluetooth enabled portable music player. Volvo is actually the only brand to offer Bluetooth music streaming throughout the entire vehicle range.

The most advanced audio unit, Premium Sound, has a Class D digital 5x130W amplifier with circuits from Swedish experts Anaview, Dolby Digital in combination with Dolby Pro Logic II Surround, the latest MultEQ from Audyssey Laboratories and 12 loudspeakers.

SAFETY-

With active safety being a long-standing Volvo ethos, the updated 2013 Volvo XC60 sees three new technologies added to the options list: active high beam, which uses the forward-facing camera to recognise traffic oncoming and ahead, and automatically switches between high beam and low beam accordingly, road sign information, which displays detected speed limits and other selected road sign information in the instrument panel, and automatic headlights
The car’s collision warning/pedestrian detection camera system has also been upgraded, along with Volvo’s pioneering city safety collision avoidance technology is now operational, at speeds up to 50km/h.

PRICING-
While talking about the Price, we see that the new model costs starts at $58,490, adds a second diesel option to the range, slotting in beneath the existing $62,490 Volvo XC60 D5. The XC60 D4 follows in the footsteps of the entry-level $55,490 Volvo XC60 T5 petrol, providing buyers with another front-wheel-drive option.

Well, after going through the details, we feel that the new model, is indeed going to bag many awards in its segment, and it also delivers a superb performance keeping in mind the safety of its passengers.
