Bugatti Veyron Super Sport which achieved the feat of world’s fastest production car around three years back has been officially stripped of the title by the team of Guinness World Records after they found that the car had its speed limited deactivated during the run.
Jaime Strang, PR Director for Guinness, stated that it had come to the notice of Guinness World Records that there was an oversight in its adjudication of the ‘Fastest production car’ title which was set in 2010 by the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport. He also stated that since the car’s speed limiter was deactivated, this modification was not as per the official guidelines issued by them.
The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport had hit a top speed of 267.8 mph when the record was set in July 2010 but all 30 production cars are limited to just 258 mph. The record prior to this belonged to SSC Ultimate Aero TT which originally reached 256.1 mph and this means that now SSC Ultimate Aero TT will be again called as the world’s fastest production car.
