There is not much detail available about the BMW-Toyota sports car but recently a latest report is indicating that it could spawn the replacements for the models such as BMW Z4 and 6-Series as well as the Toyota GT 86 / Scion FR-S.
As per the report, the two companies are jointly developing a flexible platform that can underpin almost everything from a small two-seat roadster to a larger sports car. In fact BMW may have plans to use the architecture to underpin the next-generation Z4 and 6-Series, while Toyota could use it for a new MR2 and Supra. Though persons from both companies have been reserved on details but the report states that the model will have a front rear-mounted engine and incorporate carbon composite technology.
The news sounds quite promising but there are some reports that are even indicating that there is growing friction between the two companies. According to the insiders, the senior persons at BMW were not very thrilled and happy about the i sub-brand and now they feel that the partnership with Toyota may result in further diluting the Ultimate Driving Machine mantra.
Well all we can hope is that everything goes well and we get to see what we have read.
