Report: BMW i3 Electronaut Edition in the works

by SpeedLux

BMW is reportedly in the process of preparing to launch an i3 Electronaut Edition.

During a meeting with ActiveE owners (aka Electronauts), Jacob Harb, BMW North America’s head of Electric Vehicle Operations and Strategy, mentioned the possibility of an Electronaut Edition and also suggested that it could have special equipment that is unique to the model. He also hinted that the car could have an exclusive color combination, possibly white with BMW i Blue accents.

Just to give a preview, the i3 comes equipped with a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor that generates an output of 170 HP (125 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. This enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 kmph (0-62 mph) in 7.2 seconds and can hit a top speed of 150 kmph (93 mph) and will be able to run 130 – 160 kilometers (81 – 99 miles) on a single charge.

There’s no word on when the special edition is expected to be launched but the i3 will go on sale in the United States market not before the second quarter of 2014. However we can expect details about the model to be revealed soon.
