Welcome the Asterion, the Sports Hybrid Concept from Lamborghini!

by SpeedLux

The Italian automaker Lamborghini has made good use of the auto show taking place in Paris to reveal its latest sports hybrid concept car. The company has officially shown to the public the Lamborghini Asterion LPI910-4, its very first plug-in sports hybrid. As a hybrid, it is out of the question that the most interesting part of the car will be the combination of its engine and electric motors. The Lamborghini Asterion comes with three electric motors that are capable of outputting 300 hp. Yet, if the driver demands more power, he can always count on the naturally aspirated 5.2L V10 engine. The latter can offer 610 hp in total. Add that engine-electric motor combination with the Italian automaker’s 7-speed DSG transmission and there is nothing more a driver could ask for. Put together, both the engine and the electric motor can offer a total power output of 910 hp, just as represented by its name, 910. Speaking of the name, the LP in the name represents ‘longitudinal posterior’ whereas the ‘I’ represents ‘Ibrido’, an Italian word for ‘hybrid’.

As far as power is concerned, thanks to its hybrid engine configuration, the Lamborghini Asterion concept can reach a top speed of 320 km/h and it needs only three mere seconds to go from a complete stationary position to the speed of 100 km/h.

If the driver decides to use only the electric motors to take him places in the Asterion, Lamborghini has made sure that the driver will not have to worry about running out of juice at least until he reaches a total distance of 50 km. Of course, when the electric battery runs out, the conventional engine will kick in. As a hybrid, this car consumes no more than 4.2 liters of fuel for a hundred kilometers.

Apart from the engine, another aspect worth noting is the design of the car. It comes with a sharp angular design wrapped in a glitter Blue Elektra paint. However, typical Lamborghini fans may not fancy the new design the Italian automaker is heading too much. Fortunately enough, though, the car also looks very aggressive with its 20” front wheels as well as its 21” rear wheels, all made of carbon fiber and come from Pirelli, a global top-notch wheel manufacturer.

On the inside, the car sports a minimalistic design with seats placed higher than usual in a Lamborghini model. According to the company, this is to provide more comfort to the driver and passenger inside.
