Images of the upcoming facelifted Mitsubishi Outlander for the 2016 model year had recently been caught on camera. Images of the vehicle model in question were snatched in Japan prior to the official reveal of the model – which is scheduled to take place approximately one month from now.
There was not one but plenty of examples of the model that got caught on camera at a port in Japan and it seemed as if those cars were actually getting ready for delivery. Interestingly enough, there was no camouflage whatsoever wrapping the cars. Thanks to that, it is quite easy to see how the rear fascia of the vehicle has been treated with significantly redesigned taillights. For one, the taillights are now bigger than those of the outgoing model, dominated by red graphics. We can also see some chrome accents available at the rear, plus a revised bumper that now features rear fog lamps as well.
As for the front fascia, it seems that the car is going to borrow some of the styling cues from the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Concept-S. Similar to the rear fascia, the front fascia is going to feature a number of chrome accents as well. The car can also be seen sitting firmly on a set of newly designed alloy wheels. Unfortunately, there are no images of the interior available to date. However, the officials from the Japanese automaker have actually confirmed that the cabin of the vehicle will receive upgrades, too.
In terms of the engine, customers can expect an improved hybrid system for the PHEV version. This system features a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with a pair of electric motors backed by a 12kWh li-ion battery. In the hybrid mode, the car can reach a total distance of 880 km.
The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander facelift, according to the Japanese marquee, will premiere come the 2015 New York Auto Show April this year.
