Which models are affected by the recall?

Approximately 9,400 2010 Lexus GX 460 sport utility vehicles in the U.S. are involved in this voluntary safety recall. Approximately 5,600 2010 model year vehicles have been sold.

What is the condition that prompted Lexus to take this action?

If the vehicle is driven through a sharp turn under certain high-speed conditions, the rear tires could lose traction. The issue will not always manifest, as it depends on road conditions, driving conditions and the vehicle’s load.

What is Lexus doing to address this issue?

Lexus will voluntarily recall 2010 GX 460s in order to update software in the vehicle’s Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system, which helps control a loss of traction in turns as a result of front or rear wheel slippage during cornering.

What is the likelihood that my vehicle will experience this condition?

To date, Lexus has received no customer reports of an incident related to this issue. However, it is possible for this condition to occur when the GX 460 makes a sharp turn at high speeds.
Any customer concerned about driving their 2010 GX 460 will be provided a loaner vehicle until the recall work has been completed.

What action do I need to take to prevent this condition from occurring?

Customers are advised to reduce vehicle speed when turning and to press firmly on the brake pedal if making a sharp or high-speed turn.

Is it safe to continue driving my vehicle until the update becomes available?
Toyota believes that the GX 460 is safe to drive, provided that the vehicles are driven under normal driving conditions. However, customers are advised to reduce vehicle speed when turning and to press firmly on the brake pedal if making a sharp or high-speed turn.

We are conducting driving tests for all Toyota and Lexus sport-utility vehicles and will make the results public when they are available.

Are mechanically similar Toyota vehicles such as the Toyota 4Runner affected by this recall?

No other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles are involved in this recall in the U.S., due to differences in a combination of weight balance, front and rear suspension design and equipped tires.

When can I get my vehicle fixed?

All Lexus dealers will have the VSC software update by the end of April. Once the software update is available at dealers, vehicle owners are encouraged to bring their 2010 GX 460 to a Lexus dealer at their earliest convenience.

How long will it take for a dealer to update the VSC software?

The update should take approximately one hour, depending on a dealers’ work schedule.

Is this update covered by warranty? Will drivers have to pay any money out of pocket for this repair?
