Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, have been offered a rabbinical waiver to ride in an automobile following Donald Trump’s inauguration today.
The couple are both Orthodox Jews and, as per Jewish law, driving or riding in automobiles is prohibited on the Sabbath, which starts Friday at sundown.
However a concept in Jewish law called “pikuach nefesh” states the guideline can be broken in dangerous scenarios.
Mark Zell, chairman of the Republican Party in Israel, stated the couple had been approved special permission by a rabbi to use an automobile because of “safety” issues, Kol Barama radio reported.
Ivanka Trump– who converted to Judaism to wed Kushner– explained her household as “pretty observant” in a 2015 interview with Vogue Magazine.
“We observe the Sabbath,” she stated. “From Friday to Saturday we don’t do anything but hang out with one another … it’s an amazing thing when you’re so connected, to really sign off.”
